The softball season is starting out with a bang, with a brand-new coach and plenty of new players, including five freshmen. In the past, there have barely been enough players to create a varsity team; this year, there are enough players for both a JV and a varsity.

Coach JJ Guidry has taken over the team this year.

“The girls have been working extremely hard,” Guidry said. “We want to create a positive atmosphere; I feel like this is going to be a great season.”

A new staff and more players have the group excited about the season.

“I like the coach very much,” freshman Taylor lack said. “He is very supportive, and I feel like this is going to be a great year.”

The returning players feel that with all the new people that are coming in, they have a lot to work with.

“We have a lot of new talent to work with,” senior Mayte Coepean said. “All the upcoming freshman have a lot of raw talent that we can mix with the experienced. With it all together we are going to have a great year.”

Guidry said he is excited about having a team full of motivated players.

“Winning is contagious, and we want our athletes to feel that,” Guidry said. “I am excited about this season; I am proud of their effort and I am looking forward to the season.”
