Last book in series lives up to expectations
The City of Heavenly Fire, the last book of the series of The Mortal Instruments, came out earlier this year. The book was a great way to finish off the series, and as usual, Cassandra Clare produced a well-written and thoroughly developed novel.
The book deals with Clary, Jace and company as they. are on a mission to stop Clary’s evil brother, Sebastian, from destroying the shadowhunters who protect the earth against demons. After many attacks, New York is no longer deemed unsafe. The shadow hunters retreat their home country Idris.
It seems that the only way is to stop Sebastian is to use the heavenly fire that is coursing through Jace’s veins. A problem to this is that Jace is struggling to control the fire within him. Sebastian remains fixated on Clary, but it could be Jace who truly understands the madness within his quasi-brother.
The final showdown between Clary and Sebastian put the other novels, as wonderful as they are, to shame. This final installation is only disappointing in that it is the end of the series.
