A group of the student council members were invited to attend a fall conference held at Navarro in corsicana. The Teague Student Council presides as President over the region and invited BHS to join the Texas Association of Student Councils. This year’s fall conference theme was Inside Out and gave students and advisers a chance to network and learn.
“The conference was a fun way for our students to be introduced to the TASC,” adviser Lauren Rodriguez said. “It was also a way for them to network with student council members at neighboring schools and other schools in our region.”
Students played bingo and other ice breaker activities. Junior Aimee Salazar participated in a musical chairs game and all of the students worked on skits about emotions with their groups.
“I really liked playing musical chairs. It is one of my favorite party games, I really liked how they made it challenging,” Salazar said. “I also loved the different line dances they played. I look forward to attending future conferences.”
Sophomore Genevive Arabie eagerly volunteered herself into the dance battle competition. One person for each school was called up to the stage where they were divided into three groups. Arabie showed off her unique tumbling skills and secret dance moves while the crowd cheered and applauded.
“I think I danced better than the rest of the people who competed and should’ve won,” Arabie said. “Overall everything was fun and I enjoyed the conference.”
After the conference, students were able to enjoy sweet ice cream and chocolates at the Russell Stover Chocolate factory.
“I enjoyed being able to unwind after the conference was over,” junior Kaylen Sanchez said. “I got to see many flavors of chocolate and enjoy the treats.”
Adviser Melonie Menefee said that all of the students who attended were active and represented the high school well. The skits and activities gave members plenty of ideas to bring back to use with Student Council and other campus groups.
“I was pleased to see the our students being active and involved in all of the different groups,” Menefee said. “I am excited to see the Student Council start to be more active and present on campus and in the community.”
