After a great meet in Neches last week the cross country team headed to Oakwood for their third meet of the season. The race was a five-mile trail, but it didn’t stop Buffalo from giving their best.
Although the race started early in the morning, the heat was still a factor against the teams. Buffalo runners fought past it, though, and placed second in the meet.
“It was another stunning performance by both teams this week, even with some additions from football,” coach Chuck Winkleman said. “I’m very pleased with how they did and I hope they keep the hard work up for our district meet in Fairfield.”
Ellwood Hullum, a sophomore in his second year of cross country, was also pleased with how the team and how he competed at the Oakwood meet. He saw some improvement in himself and the team from Neches to Oakwood.
“I think that our pace has gotten better and our overall times have improved since the last meet,” Hullum said. “It was fun, and I placed a little higher than I did at the last meet.”
Several football players joined the meet this week to see if they liked it. For many of them, it was not what they expected.
“It was definitely a new experience for me and everyone from football,” senior Julyan Woods said. “It was long and tiring but fun at the same time.”
