“Today, I will do what others won’t, so tomorrow I can accomplish what others can’t.” This quote by Jerry Rice is one of the reasons Luke Brown says he gets out of bed and works hard to perform his best at school and in sports.
For Brown, a senior, Fridays are not just the start of the weekend. Instead, it means that at 7:30 he gets ready to hear the roar of the crowd as he hits the field with “Buffalo Bison” across his jersey.
“I get a sense of pride with being able to play alongside my teammates and friends,” Brown said.
Brown says that football has had a big impact on his life. He enjoys playing as the outside receiver for varsity. Luke’s favorite memory is from his junior year, throwing his first touchdown pass to Elijah Harper.
“I felt a lot of excitement for myself and my teammates at that moment,” Brown said.
Brown said that one of his favorite drills at practice is the Tempo Drill, because of the fast pace and high level of competition against the other players.
“The Tempo Drill is fun and exciting,” Brown said. “I always look forward to it.”
Outside of school, Luke likes hanging out with his friends and watching film for the upcoming games.
“I love the relationship that I can make with teammates,” Brown said. “I love the memories I have made during my four years of high school sports.”
High school has been about more than just football, though. Brown attended the firefighting program his junior year of high school and is now a certified firefighter; he’s going to put that certification to use when he graduates in May.
“I enjoy being a firefighter because of the challenges it brings,” Luke said. “I like helping the people in my community.”
Luke said he plans to make his last year in high school something he will never forget and is looking forward to all the senior activities.
“I hope to have fun,” Brown said. “I want to make it memorable.”
