A rare and deadly disease is being spread by mosquitoes in five Massachusetts towns causing them to go on lockdown after five o’ clock. State officials became concerned after the very first case of eastern equine encephalitis appeared in an 80-year-old man since the year 2020. Although these cases are extremely rare, there is still one issue: There are no vaccines or treatments for eastern equine encephalitis, or EEE. This is an extreme issue because nearly 30% of people who get infected with EEE die as stated by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but fortunately, experts know where they are mainly located – on the eastern seaboard and the Gulf Coast.
