When a new event is a success, the best thing to do is to turn it into a tradition, which is exactly what Coach Judith Harris did this August with the Back to School Bash.
Like last year, school supplies and backpacks were handed out to all students who showed up. Cheer Captain Alexa Sanchez and the rest of the high school and junior high cheerleaders helped stand at the supplies table and help parents sort the supplies they needed for their kids.
“I enjoyed advertising cheer and getting people ready for school,” Sanchez said. “I love helping out our community and will help out with anything every time I get the chance.”
Also available were vision screenings, free haircuts, registration for school, parking passes for students who are licensed and drive to school, physicals and vaccines. Athletes could buy their workout clothes for the school year. Students riding the bus were able to check for information on routes, as well. Volleyball player Gabbi Pena checked parents off as they lined up for supplies.
“There were many people at the bash this year, maybe even double of last year,” Pena said. “Even though I was nervous at first, I was glad I could come out and help out. I am excited to see what this year will bring.”
Extracurricular activities such as FCCLA and Speech and Debate had tables set up in the cafeteria where incoming high school students could stop by and see what the clubs had to offer. Junior Kaylen Sanchez was in charge of the speech and debate table and got to talk to students and parents about the different events.
“I’m so glad we were able to continue with our back-to-school bash tradition,” Sanchez said. “I couldn’t think of a better way to end summer and introduce the school year.”
