Love is in the air.

Students in floral design class spent some time the week before the Sunday holiday creating gifts for the people in their lives. The class focused on two projects: one for a teacher and the other to give to someone special in their life.

“I loved the projects, and I knew exactly who I was going to give them to because it was going to be my way to tell them that I appreciate them,” sophomore Allison Bing said. “I enjoyed putting them together.”

Teacher Danielle Schill started students off with plenty of Valentine tins, floral foam, wooden craft sticks, glitter, foam hearts and tissue paper. Students were required to bring candy to hot glue onto the wooden craft sticks. Instructions were given and students started planning their designs.

“I started off by putting the heart-shaped foam in the middle wooden sticks besides it. I bought Hershey chocolate to put on it,” senior Asa Henson said. “It was pretty simple to make but I know it meant a lot to the person I gave it to because of the effort and thought that was put into it.”

Another project involved a heart-shaped ceramic container, shredded tissue paper, ribbon, and chocolate. This project would be given to a teacher of the student’s choice.

“I like how Ms. Schill showed us a way to do it but gave us space and room to put our spin on it,” senior Sydney Lebel said. “I gave my project to Ms. Schill because it was a way to say thank you for putting up with us, even with everything she had going on with her life. She’s a great teacher.”
