Dallas is back for Season Three
Back with all the popularity of any retro-turned-new-again style, the television show Dallas centers on the Ewing clan, a wealthy, money-hungry Texas family whose exploits are legendary, sometimes even to non-viewers. The new version of the show brought back three iconic stars from the original series: Patrick Duffy as Bobby Ewing, Linda Gray as Sue Ellen Ewing and Larry Hagman as J.R. Ewing. They may be older, but have not, at their core, changed much. They have simply multiplied, with the next generation taking deception and greed to a new level.
Three new regulars will join the show this season. Mitch Pileggi, who guest-starred in the first season, plays Harris Ryland, Ann’s not-to-be-trusted ex-husband. Emma Bell is Emma Brown, a beautiful woman who seems to trust no one. Kuno Becker is Drew Ramos, Elena’s brother who returns to Southfork to continue drilling on his father’s land.
Anyone who likes intrigue and deception will enjoy this show; being a fan of the first series in not a prerequisite, although the original series in its entirety is available on DVD and will give new fans some history and perspective. The vengeful and selfish antics of the entire family will shock even viewers who are used to dysfunction in their relatives. The Ewings are not the kind of family that anyone with any sense at all would want to mess with, which was obvious to anyone watching the finale of season two, when it was revealed that JR, in plotting his own demise, managed to implicate his enemy Cliff Barnes as his murderer.
Season 3 premieres on February 24; for anyone who wants to catch up on the first two seasons can purchase Season 1 now on DVD and Season 2 beginning February 11.
