The unconditional surrender statue in Sarasota, Florida, depicting the famous image of a sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square after the end of WWII, was vandalized on Monday. The incident took place a day after the veteran in the photo, George Mendonsa, died at the age of 95 from a seizure.
Officers responded to a report of a person spray painting #metoo in red on the nurse’s left leg. The incident was not captured on surveillance footage, and police say there are no witnesses.
