Americans are extremely wasteful compared to other countries, a new study has found. On average, each American wastes nearly a pound of food a day. That isn’t just a waste of food, it’s also a waste of the time, labor, resources and land that was used to produce that food. This study has shown that fruit and vegetables count for more than a third of all food waste. So, healthy eaters are actually trashing more food than everyone else. Between 2007-2014, Americans have wasted nearly 150,000 tons of food per day. All of this food took 4.2 trillion gallons of water to make annually, 780 million pounds of pesticides, and 30 million acres of crop land.
