Last week, several of the varsity cheerleaders were awarded with high level recognition from TGCA.
Senior Shalyn Cotton was announced as a member of the All-State Cheer team by UIL for the competitive season. Recipients of this award are chosen because of their accomplishments through cheer as well as their high school achievements.
“I am beyond thankful to be named All-State,” Cotton said. “It is truly a blessing to be awarded such an award.”
Senior Taylor Lack received TGCA Legacy All-Star. This award goes out to the top seniors of every squad.
“I am extremely surprised I received this award,” Lack said. “I had no idea about it, but I am well beyond happy that I have received it.”
Junior Sheri Donaldson received TGCA All-Star Red. She has been given the opportunity to perform at a annual TGCA football game with other cheerleaders from across the state who have been selected as well.
“I am so excited about this summer,” Donaldson said. “I love to cheer and being able to cheer at an event like this is something that I am very proud of.”
Many teammates have said that they all deserve these awards because of how much of a hard worker they are and how they are committed
“They work very hard, ” junior Makayla Gilliam said. “They earn what they are given and deserve it very much.”
The girls stated that they would be nowhere without their teammates because they push them to their limits and are always encouraging.
“My teammates are my biggest motivation,” Cotton said. “They push me and encourage me to be better.
