Bison Brigade members traveled to Riesel High School to compete at the annual Centex Band competition. There were more than 400 students from more than 20 schools competing, and junior Megan Wedhorn earned a spot in the concert band.
“This is one of our biggest competitions throughout the year,” senior Sonia Dominguez said. “Between junior high and high school, we have at least 10 kids try out every year.”
The band prepared for the competition for several weeks. The students made many improvements in their individual events from last year.
“We rehearse every day during the class period,” senior Sean Haycock said. “Some of us even rehearse every day at home as well. We just want to get in that extra practice and improve ourselves from the year before.”
Placing second chair in bass clarinet in Concert Band, junior Megan Wedhorn took on two awards; she also placed eighth chair in regular clarinet.
“I was shocked, especially in bass clarinet, because I didn’t think I did that well,” Wedhorn said. “I am going to get a jump shot in practicing for next year and hopefully I do better.”
