Government shutdown unacceptable

Government shutdown unacceptable

Trump slammed democrats on twitter this morning as the U.S. Government entered the third day of shutdown, saying that democrats “just want immigrants to pour into the country.”

His blame of the democrats for the government shutdown is in stark contrast to the last government shutdown, in which Trump claimed that President Obama was responsible.

This is a clear contradiction in Trump’s views. If the president was to blame then, it stands to reason that the president is to blame now.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Trump has been “glaringly absent” from negotiations. His absence is likely a strong contributor to the lack of progress on the budget negotiations.

As the shutdown continued through the weekend, both parties attempted to avoid blame for it ahead of this year’s midterm elections. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell repeatedly slammed the minority party for not backing the bill, while Republicans shared the phrase “Schumer shutdown” on social media.

At the end of the day, though, this shutdown shows a lack of leadership from the top. Trump needs to step up and come to the table to resolve the budget crisis. His refusal to negotiate with Democrats is putting the entire country in danger by prolonging the government shutdown.
