On Sunday, November 5, an armor-clad gunman opened fire inside a First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, killing a total of 26 people and wounding 19 others.
The shooting in Sutherland Springs, a small town located only 30 miles southeast of San Antonio, is the deadliest massacre to ever happen at a house of worship in the United States. The shooter, later identified as 26 year old Devin Patrick Kelly, was found dead inside of his vehicle. Kelly was a former member of the Air Force, but was discharged in 2014 due to misconduct.
Kelly’s in-laws attended the church, however, they didn’t attend the day of the massacre. According to federal officials, the motive for the shooting is unclear. This is the largest mass shooting in the history of the state of Texas.
