While the Southeastern portion of the United States was experiencing storms and flooding due to hurricane Harvey, the Southwestern states of California and Nevada were experiencing wildfires. Hundreds and thousands of acres of land and houses in California and Nevada have faced the wrath of these wildfires, and it is only expected to get worse.
Nevada and California are not the only western states that are battling wildfires. Montana, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, Utah, and Idaho, are also battling wildfires. According to the National Interagency Fire Center, the number of active wildfires is up to 75. So far, only seven fires have been contained.
Last week there were 12 fires burning in California, 6 fires burning in Idaho, 25 fires burning in Montana, 6 fires burning in Nevada, 18 fires burning in Oregon, 1 fire burning in Utah, 6 fires in Washington, and 1 fire burning in Wyoming. Federal officials say one of the worst wildfire seasons in the U.S, will continue to scorch the western states until cooler weather patterns with rain or even snow arrive in the fall.
