Less than a week after vandals knocked over and damaged more than 100 headstones in a historic Jewish cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri, police in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania found a similar sight in Mount Carmel Jewish Cemetery.
In northeast Philadelphia, police counted about 100 toppled over and damaged headstones at the Mount Carmel Jewish Cemetery. According to the New York Times, a man told police that three of the headstones that had been knocked over and damaged belonged to his relatives. Officers believe that the headstones were toppled sometime the night before they found the disaster. This incident is almost identical to the incident that happened in St. Louis Missouri. Earlier in the year a Jewish community center in Philadelphia was one of the targets of a bomb threat.
Philadelphia Police have not identified suspects or motives, but they have vowed to step up patrols of local Jewish institutions.
