When it comes to pet adoption, people automatically think of dogs and cats; not birds. However, just like our four legged friends, there is a huge need for adoption for parrots. A rescue in Minnesota realizes this and has taken steps to help.
Located in Lino Lakes, Minnesota, there is a rescue for parrots called Quimby’s Parrot Rescue. According to Fox News, Renee Quimby, director of the Parrot Adoption Education program, began as a volunteer at the rescue about 15 years ago. After a year of volunteering, she was asked to take over. Since then, the need for parrot rescue has risen steadily. In 2003 the rescue helped 10 birds. Now, the rescue is helping nearly 100 birds each year.
Parrots can live to be 100 years old. There is a great need for adoption and rescue for an animal that can outlive its owners. Quimby’s rescue is currently housing and caring for 30 birds. The rescue is in need of volunteers, donations, and people willing to adopt.
