Queen Elizabeth II marked the 65 years on Britain’s throne today, which is the longest reign for any British monarch. The Royal Mint marked the occasion of the 65th anniversary with specially-designed Sapphire Jubilee commemorative coins, and the Royal Mail issued a Sapphire Blue £5 stamp.
Royal gun salutes were staged in London on Accession Day, with a 41-gun salute by the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery. The Band of the Royal Artillery played as 89 horses pulled six First World War-era 13-pounder field guns into position in the park. A 62-gun salute by the Honourable Artillery Company was fired at the Tower of London, all to celebrate the 90-year-old’s milestone.
