The Leon County Extension Agency is once again putting together the Leon County Youth Board, which will be made up of students from all schools in the county. The group will work to address issues that affect the youth in the area. The first meeting was held last week and Buffalo students who will represent BHS attended. They are junior Lilah Adams, sophomores Andrea Garcia and Sheri Donaldson and freshman Colby Menefee.
The next meeting will be held on February 22 to elect officers and choose what activities they will participate in for this year.
“I had no idea what this was going into this, but I am glad I was chosen to be a part of it,” Garcia said. “I had never heard about this board before; it was something completely new to me. However, I hope we can accomplish a lot of the goals we set during the first meeting.”
All of the schools in Leon county are represented on this board, including students from Leon, Centerville, Oakwood, and Normangee.
“I did not know a lot of the kids who were there, but I hope we can get to know them through this board,” Donaldson said. “I am excited about the next meeting so we can meet the other kids who were not at the last meeting. I would really love to make new friends.”
This is the first time the board has been assembled in a couple of years.
“I am really excited to be a part of this my freshman year,” Menefee said. “I hope we can do as much as we can to help our community. I want to be very active to make a real change in our society.”
