High School is a full time job, and a tough one, for typical teenagers. For junior Lizbeth Guevara, working her way to a diploma while also being a mother is an additional challenge.
“High school and parenting are two very hard things everyone goes through in life,” Guevara said. “It’s even harder when you go through them at the same time.”
Guevara became a mother to baby Khovan on May 30, 2016.
“Khovan is the biggest blessing in my life,” Guevara said. “I don’t see him as a mistake; I see him as my whole world.”
Between keeping her grades up and raising a child, Guevara has bigger responsibilities now.
“Going to school while having a baby is really hard,” Guevara said. “Everyone looks at you wrong; however, that only encourages me to move on forward and pursue my dreams.”
One of the biggest goals for Guevara right now is to receive her high school degree. Her determination is to achieve this goal for her baby boy.
“Every decision I make isn’t just for myself no more, it’s for my son,” Guevara said. “I want to be an example for him and teach him not to give on your dreams. Even if some blessings came a little early.”
Guevara’s plans for her future are to receive a degree in cosmetology and raise her baby to be the best person he can be.
“I want to continue my education after high school,” Guevara said. “By going to cosmetology school, I will be able to pursue my dreams and still be able to support my son.”
