As a successful basketball season came to a close, head girls’ basketball coach Jozette Jenkins found herself on the receiving end of various awards for her impressive coaching achievements this season. Not only did she stand out in the coaching world by remaining one of the two “undefeated” 3A teams in Texas in the regular season, she also made a tremendous difference on the members of the Lady Bison basketball team.

This past weekend, Jenkins coached “Team West” in the annual Azalea Orthopedics All-Star game held in Tyler, Texas. The game consisted of some of East Texas’s best basketball players from classifications 1-4A. Assistant coaches JJ Guidry and Kaila Grissett were also a part of the All-Star experience by sitting along the sidelines and coaching with Jenkins

“The All-Star game was an amazing experience for my assistant coaches and me,” Jenkins said. “Coaching was both effortless, yet challenging because there was so much talent to choose from.”

In addition to the honor of being an All-Star coach, Jenkins received D21-AAA Coach of the Year and was a Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) DeWeese-Coleman Outstanding Coach Finalist for Region 3-3A.

“Coach Jenkins truly deserved everything that she was awarded,” senior Allison Grissett said. “I don’t think I know any other coach that is as dedicated and motivating as her. She made my senior year a year to remember.”

Jenkins was also nominated for Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) coach of the Year and was mentioned in the TABC News for maintaining a “perfect season”.

“It’s no surprise to me that she received so many awards,” daughter Jordan Jenkins said. “I would be more surprised if she hadn’t. I witnessed the time and effort that she spilled into making us better whether it meant losing sleep or stressing herself out to do so. It’s great to see that all of her hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.”
