In January 2025, the Gulf Coast of the United States experienced an unprecedented blizzard, marking the first recorded blizzard in the region and the most significant winter storm since 1895. The storm, which occurred between January 20 and January 22, brought heavy snowfall to areas that rarely see wintry precipitation. Snow accumulations ranged from 6 to 12 inches across the coast, with some areas in Louisiana recording up to 13.4 inches. The blizzard led to widespread power outages, affecting over 77,000 residents, and resulted in at least 13 fatalities. Financial losses are estimated to exceed $500 million. This rare meteorological event prompted states of emergency across the Gulf Coast, highlighting the region’s vulnerability to unexpected severe winter weather.

Editorial TeamThis is my second year being involved in journalism! I am in speech and debate, journalism, cheer, Spanish club, student council. I am also an FCCLA officer for our school and the class president. I enjoy reading, sleeping, planning and listening to music during my free time (which is nonexistent). One of my favorite book series would have to be The Hunger Games. Generally speaking, dystopian novels are just unbeatable. I love all things fall, especially the weather, and winter as well. I enjoy things like reading, writing and speaking, so naturally, English is my favorite subject. Most importantly though, I am very excited about what we can accomplish this year!
