CNA teacher Stacy Cornett’s classroom was filled to the brim with happy students and playful puppies last week. Students practiced vaccinating Cornett’s AKC poodle puppies for rabies and worms. The whole process went smoothly with the help of Cornett.
Senior Kirstyn Dennix said that the experience solidified that nursing was the right profession for her.

“I didn’t have a problem giving the puppies shots,” Dennix said. “I thought it was a great experience, and I am more confident in my decision to go into the nursing field.”
The students were shown how to properly administer shots.
“It was really cool that we were able to learn how to draw the medicine and that we were able to administer it to the puppies,” senior Guadalupe Gonzalez said. “I was actually really surprised that they stayed still long enough for us to give them the shots. The puppies were so cute.”
For many of the students, this was the first time that they had ever given a shot to an animal.
“I was so frightened about giving a dog a shot because I had never done it before,” junior Soledad Soria said. “I realized that if you want to experience new things, you have to just go with it. This experience taught me to never be afraid to learn or try something new.”
