After lighting candles and pinning students, National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society welcomed new members to their organizations. Both organizations have scheduled service projects meant to help and better the community throughout the year.
The Spanish Honor Society started off the night with their induction ceremony. The organization was introduced by teacher Maria Salazar. Students were called to the stage to light candles and repeat the creed.
“I was ecstatic when I got accepted into the Spanish Honor Society,” junior Brock Corbitt said. “I am really excited to see what we do for our community this year.”
Most students were inducted into either NHS or SHS, but senior Pari Bharat qualified for both this year.
“It was nice to see that a lot of students decided to join and be a part of either organization,” Bharat said. “I am excited that I get to help the community.”
After the Spanish Honor Society wrapped up their ceremony, NHS proceeded to induct their new members. Most of the newer members were sophomores.
“I was so grateful that I was accepted into the National Honor Society,” sophomore Genevieve Arabie said. “It was such a wonderful experience and I really enjoyed the ceremony.”
Officers ran most of the ceremony and spoke about the pillars and roots of the organization. Andie Kilgore, NHS Parliamentarian, cherished her last ceremony and treasured the bittersweet moments throughout.
“I think that the induction ceremony was excellent, but it was also kind of sad,” Kilgore said. “This was my last year working with Ashtyn Barzda and Braydn Lack. We have all been officers together for the last two years.”
Throughout the ceremony, old members were asked to sit in the audience and cheer on the new inductees.
“I’m so happy with the way that the ceremony turned out,” Aiden Gonzalez said. “We got a lot of new members and overall it was really nice.”
