The speech and debate team woke up bright and early for their second in-person meet of the year, this one in Princeton.
Senior Reagyn Dennix competed in duo with her partner, Ashtyn Barzda. Together, they made it to finals and placed sixth in the room.
“I was surprised we made it to finals,” Dennix said. “The Princeton meet was my first time doing a duo. I was just really surprised because I had lost my voice the morning of the competition.”
Senior Tristan Cole competed in Congress and Extemp. She did not place in either event, but she continues to stay positive.
“Even though I didn’t get a medal, I still feel like I gained a lot of experience,” Cole said. “I feel like that experience will help me for future meets.”
Junior Kaylen Sanchez competed in Original Oratory and Informative and placed second in both events.
“I was super duper excited to get a lot of points because now I’m one step closer to qualifying,” Sanchez said. “I’m super hopeful for what’s to come.”
Sophomore Genevieve Arabie competed in POI and poetry. She placed first in poetry.
“I am so happy with how I did at Princeton,” Arabie said. “I am excited to grow with the program.”
Junior Yuliet Gonzalez placed sixth in POI and fourth in Prose.
“I was really nervous because it was my first time doing POI,” Gonzalez said. “I did a lot better than I thought I would do. I hope and look forward to attending more meets in the future.”
