Luring students in with the promise of ice cream had several new prospects available for the speech and debate team. Students came and had their fill of Blue Bell while discussing the different events they can participate in. Junior Kaylen Sanchez talked to the students about the events that could suit them best.
“I had a good time, it was a great opportunity to get people interested,” Sanchez said. “My favorite part was hearing about what other people are interested in. I hope to expand our program more.”
One of the interested students who attended was junior Sayni Jones. Jones wanted to try something new so decided to come to the meeting and hear about how each competition can match your personality.
“When I first walked in I didn’t know what to expect. I thought we would just be talking the whole time and I would get bored easily but Kaylen made it sound interesting and kept me interested,” Jones said. “I also enjoyed the ice cream and tried the new flavors Mrs. Menefee had brought. I found out that Cinnamon Twist ice cream is now my favorite.”
To make the meeting more amusing, sophomore Genevive Arabie gave everyone an interesting show of her trying to catch as many whipped cream balls as possible with her mouth as she bounced them off her hand. She has participated in speech and debate for two years now and hopes to keep being a part of this organization.
“The meeting was amazing. I loved the ice cream about being able to talk about the events I have competed in,” Arabie said. “I look forward to seeing new people join our team.”
