Belles dominate competition
January 27, 2023
After several years of not competing, the Bison Belles were back on the competition track last week, competing at Kaufman High School and Coming home with several awards, including Best in Category Military, Best in category Pom, Judges Award and Sweepstakes Award. They also won Grand Champions in the classic division.
“We were kind of nervous because everything went pretty well but the jazz was slightly off,” Director Lupita Martinez said. “We were still hopeful.”
When one member sustained an injury the evening before the contest, the group found themselves reworking everything the morning of the contest. The hard work paid off with a qualification to nationals.
“At first I was nervous since it was my first time competing but finding out we were going to nationals was exciting,” Captain Pari Jariwala said. “At the same time, I’m really sad because it is my last year since I am a senior.”
National competition will be held in Galveston in March. The girls are excited to shop for new costumes before the event.
“The girls saw the other girls’ outfits and costumes and they liked it, they wanted something different for nationals.” Martinez said. “It makes me happy seeing the girls excited about getting new outfits and costumes.”
