One of the main focuses of FCCLA is community service. When the organization competes in a city, they always give to the people in that city that needs it. As the members prepare for their state contests, they are also gathering items to bring with them to Dallas.
“We always try to give back to the place that hosts our contests,” FCCLA advisor Melissa Isaacs said. “I’m happy that Dallas is hosting the State contest for us, and I’m more than happy to help them.”
The FCCLA members are partnering with Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center to support the children that are in need of hygiene products.
“I think it’s very nice of us to help the people in the different places we compete at,” senior Makayla Gilliam said. “It makes everyone feel a little more cheerful when we are at the place.”
To help FCCLA with the drive, the National Honor Society and Student Council members are bringing products as well.
“I was happy that Ms. Isaacs allowed us to help them with the donations,” senior Yomele Almeida said. “I think of it as our way of supporting FCCLA and supporting the competition.”
