Lending a helping hand was the theme as FCCLA students travelled to help another region with their competition a few weeks ago even while working on contests for their own. While most regions have their own, independent supervisors, regions four and five share one. This means that at contest time, they help each other out.
“Since the regions have the same supervisor, we help each other out,” senior Makayla Gilliam said. “That’s what we were doing when we went to Corpus Christi.”
To help the other region, FCCLA advisor Melissa Isaacs took co-adviser Amanda Harter and region officers Gilliam, Callie Harter, Iveth Molina and Lupita Martinez.
“It was fun to be able to help the other region,” Molina said. “I liked watching the different groups display their boards.”
The Region 5 officers and advisors will help the upcoming Region 4 contest this week.
“It’s nice to have another group help out our supervisor so they don’t have to worry as much,” Martinez said. “If we didn’t have the extra help, it would be a crazy contest.”
