Thank you for coming! Y’all did amazing!
The Bison Brigade was invited to march at a parade in West for the second year in a row. Junior high teacher Teresa MacNabb introduced West Fest to the Brigade last year. The parade celebrates Czech traditions with many different companies and bands marching. After the parade is the actual West Fest. There are many rides and games as well booths to visit and new foods to try. At the end of the evening, there was plenty of dancing to the brigades favorite band, Brave Combo.
The band marched in the parade early that morning. They played a variety of songs to entertain the crowd as they marched. After the parade many of the brigade members were stopped and thanked for coming and e told they did an amazing job.
“West Fest is always fun and full of surprises,” freshman Anthony Gonzales said.” The parade was fun but it was really hot, The festival was even more fun; all the rides were crazy.”
There were many bands playing throughout the day, but the band loves dancing and enjoying the music of the polka band Brave Combo
“When I dance to brave combo it’s almost like dancing to regular Mexican music,” freshman Aleida Gonzales said.” I enjoy going because every time we dance random people dance with us and make us feel like family to them.”
Between riding carnival rides and tasting food from the booths, the students spent time shopping.
“We walked through the tents, and the first thing we saw was a beef jerky stand and they were giving free samples,” freshman Ivan Rodriguez said. ”We ended up liking the jerky and spent the rest of our money on that.”
Overall the day was a success and the band students left tired from their day but happy to have spent their day in West.
“A day with the band is always full of fun and excitement.” band director Jeff Villarreal said,”The day turned out as a success from being commended at the parade by people to having fun on fairgrounds and the dance floor.“
