Joseph Jame DeAngelo, a 72- year-old ex California police officer, was charged with two counts of murder. He is suspected to be the Golden State Killer in a series of rapes and murders that took place in California in the 1970s and 1980s. The Golden State Killer is blamed for 12 murders, 45 rapes and ransacking of more than 100 area homes.
With new DNA technology and updated databases it allowed investigators to tie the cases together and lead them to their suspect. It was a discarded sample and with the new advancements they finally had a lead since the 1970s.
