Students in dual credit English class participated in the annual Hamlet Trial. Navarro professor Anna Kantor assigned students the task of being part of the prosecution or defense in a trial to convict Hamlet for the murders he committed in the novel.
“I really liked being Hamlet,” junior Noah Rubel said. “When we were first told about this, I immediately wanted to be him.”
During the first period class, the students were split into two groups: either the prosecution or defense.
“I knew we had a good chance when we saw we had all of the [high school] debaters on the prosecution,” senior Natalie Uptmor said. “When we were setting up our strategy, they had so many good ideas and we came up with a pretty good case.”
The professor brought in an actual lawyer to judge the trial.
“It made me a little nervous that she was bringing in someone else to judge us,” junior Ashley Thunderhawk said. “Although we didn’t win, it was a lot of fun to get to participate in an actual trial.”
