Vomit covered the dance floor.

Before the Bison Belles performed at the dance competition at Six Flags in Arlington, a girl threw up. Everywhere. All over the competition dance floor. The Belles were divided into two groups to perform two different dances. They were about to hit the stage when they had to stop and wait for the clean-up crew.

“It was pretty gross smelling in there after the poor girl threw up, but it was kind of humorous because she tried to keep dancing after it happened and the floor was covered in puke,” Belle director Amanda Harter said. “Good thing she was alright; it was probably just her nerves.”

The Belles had a long, hot day as they rode rides and walked around the amusement park before and after their competition.

“It was a super hot day and there wasn’t much breeze at all,” Harter said. “Most of the stores had their doors open, and there wasn’t any air conditioning on, so you had to find the right stores to go and cool off in.”

The Belles arrived at Six Flags at 11am and left at 6pm, meaning that they were there for seven hours.

“I was exhausted by the end of the day because of all the walking and the heat,” junior Josalyn Taylor said. “It was hot and kind of made me not want to dance, but the girl puking really made me not want to go dance on the stage. They didn’t use any cleaner to clean it up, only paper towels, and it smelt bad.”

Taylor said her day would have been more enjoyable if the heat wasn’t as bad.

“I had fun going to Six Flags again,” Taylor said. “I wish it wasn’t so hot, but the food was good and the rides were fun.”

For many of the new Belles, it was their first time to dance at a competition.

“I was nervous to dance because I didn’t know much of the audience and it was a room full of other dancers,” freshman Scarlet Carrillo said. “I don’t think I did that bad and after I danced I felt really relieved that it was over. I also liked the participation ribbon we got.”

Carrillo said that although dancing was fun, she hopes next year no one gets sick.

“I had tons of fun throughout the day with all of my friends,” Carrillo said. “I love getting to dance with my friends and I can’t wait for competition season to start. I really felt bad for the girl that got sick, but I hope there is no puke on the dance floor if we go to Six Flags again.”
