19-year-old New Jersey resident Sarah Stern went missing on December 9, 2016. After two months of investigation, Liam McAtasney, 19, and Preston Taylor, 19, both of Neptune City and childhood friends of Stern, were arrested.
McAstasney was charged with first-degree felony murder, first-degree robbery, and other charges. Taylor was charged with second-degree desecration of human remains, second-degree conspiracy, and other charges.
The USA Coast Guard and other law enforcement helped search Shark River for evidence of Stern’s body, which has still not been found.
Stern went to Neptune High school where she played softball and was part of the swimming team.
