Magic or Madness is an inspiring book written by Justine Larbalestier. This book is mainly written in first person POV but sometimes switches to third. The three main characters are Reason, her mother, Sarafina Casino, and her grandmother, Esmeralda Casino. For her whole life, Reason was brought up with a hate for Esmerelda, who believes in the practice of magic. Sarafina has a mental breakdown and is in a hospital, meaning that Reason must stay with Esmerelda. Reason ends up across the world in New York and finds out a lot about herself and family.
I think this book is very interesting and no matter what I just couldn’t put it down. This book gives the reader a new view on magic and can make them wonder if it really exist. I really enjoyed this book because I can relate to Reason in many ways. I can not wait to read the second book; I am sure that it is great just like this one. I love the way this book ends because it left me wanting to read the next one immediately. I recommend this book for anyone who loves suspense and even if you don’t then this is still an amazing book.
