Senior Marissa Jones was named KBTX Classroom Champion earlier this year, being honored by the news station for her accomplishments in the classroom as well as on the court.

Jones currently has a 3.3 GPA and plans to attend Sam Houston State University in the Fall.

Jones is a member of the Lady Bison basketball, volleyball, and track teams. She was an Academic All-District selection in basketball and volleyball. Marissa was also a 2nd Team All-District selection as well in basketball. Academically, she’s a Member of the Student Council, National Honor Society, and FCA. She is very active in her church and her community. And she also works at Davis Country Store on the weekends.

“Miss Morris nominated me and I had to fill out this paper with my high school resume. She sent it in and months later she got a call and they asked her if I was a good person to interview, and she said yes,” Jones said. “They came and filmed me and it was really awkward because I had a camera in my face all day. They filmed Mrs.Neyland and Coach Jenkins and then they filmed me when I was practicing basketball in the gym, and it was really weird, because I didn’t know what to do.”

When the segment was aired, it found its way all over Facebook as well as on television.

“It was crazy the amount of the positive feedback I got back” Jones said “ People were retweeting it and sharing it on Facebook.”
