To add to the homecoming festivities, Student Council held a door decorating contest. Teachers, with the help of students, created decorations for their doors to help ramp up spirit the week of the homecoming game.

“We’ve done something like this in the past, and we wanted to bring it back,” secretary Sherlynn Rodriguez said. “We wanted to get everyone involved during Homecoming week.”

The winner, Maria Salazar, was announced at the pep rally on Friday. Since she is a sophomore class sponsor, the sophomores won a spirit stick. All four classes are still competing to increase their numbers in hopes of winning the field trip.

“We need all the spirit sticks that we can get,” senior Avery Hardin said. “We won last year but our class is still very competitive and we want to win again.”

After Friday’s pep rally, the senior and junior classes are tied with three, while the sophomores have two and the freshmen one.

“With posters, games, and yelling contests, there are a lot of chances to win a spirit stick,” freshman Kaylee Rodriguez said. “Our class needs to work together so we can beat the other classes.”

Salazar decorated the entire 200 Hall as well as her own door, and she had the help of her students, who will also receive a basket of goodies from the Student Council.

“I wrote all the names of all football players, belles, band, cheer, and volleyball players for Mrs. Salazar’s door,” junior Pari Jariwala said. “Mrs. Salazar isn’t our sponsor, but I still wanted to help out.”
