The sounds of metal banging on metal indicate that powerlifting is in season.

“I was so excited to finally get this season started,” junior Edgar Aguilar said. “I have been working hard and putting in a lot of effort and dedication to this season.”

The team has competed in only two meets, one in Buffalo and the other in Fairfield. The other two were canceled due to the recent winter storm.

“This season has really been so different and crazy,” junior Abel Salazar said. “With COVID and the weather, you really don’t know what to expect.”

The girls’ team never got a chance to compete because their meet that counted for regionals was cancelled due to inclement weather. They no longer had a season.

“I was really bummed that we didn’t have a season at all,” sophomore Alondra Dominguez said. “I was really excited to lift this year, but I guess I will have to wait until next year, which is okay because it means I can improve.”
