Multiple teams from ag classes competed over the last few weeks in CDEs (Career Development Events), with many of the different groups competing for the first time ever. After multiple trips and multiple competitions, two teams – The Milk Quality and Products Team and the Meats Team – advanced to state competition.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the kids,” teacher Mr. Goff said. “The kids worked so much. They did the best they could, and prevailed.”

This year was the first time in seven years that the FFA group was able to make it to state.

“It has been seven years since we went to state.” Goff said. “It was amazing being able to go to state this year, considering the overwhelming amount of underclassmen.”

All of the students who participated in the competition worked for weeks and months beforehand to develop the skills they needed to compete. The officers were very proud and surprised when they saw the skills the underclassmen had.

“Everyone did fantastic,” FFA officer Jernon Hawley said. “We were really able to build a foundation this year. It went a lot smoother this year than it did last year with all the other new people.”

Even with full teams manned with new recruits and freshmen, the teams competed strongly overall.

“We all worked and did as much as we could,” sophomore Ginna Cox said. “I am so proud of everybody and all we did. I did as much as we could and ended up doing better than I thought. Can’t wait to do this till I graduate!”
