The newest teenage drama craze is the TV series Red Band Society. RBS introduces a new palette of actors of all different styles.

Here’s the run-down: there is no set main character, but the narrator of the story is a small boy who is living his childhood in a coma, Charlie (Griffin Gluck). Nurse Jackson (Octavia Spencer ), who is one of the most heartfelt nurses in the history of forever, takes care of six very special kids, each different in his own way. Leo Roth (Charlie Rowe) is a cancer patient who has lived his whole life in the hospital and plans to be there for the rest of it. His new roommate and recently-diagnosed cancer patient is Jordi Palacios (Nolan Sotillo), who has the same type of cancer as Leo. Jordi meets his love in the most unusual place in the hospital, the eating disorder floor, which is home to Emma Chota (Ciara Bravo). Best friends with Leo is Dash Honley (Astro). Last, but certainly not least, is  Kara Sounders (Zoe Levin) who is a recent check-in for a heart defect. She started off on the wrong foot with everyone else, but is working on her people skills.

The first episode of the series premiered September 17 and will air every Wednesday. As the series goes on we will be able to watch the actors go through different stages in their lives even as they move through different stages in their medical conditions. Some will get better. Others won’t.

The Red Band Society shows how kids battle ordinary obstacles even under the most extraordinary of circumstances – and fight for their lives at the same time. RBS is a truly inspiring show, illustrating the fact that a hospital is more than just a place for the sick and the dying – it’s a place where new lives are born and where new people are made. “You’re soul is you, and they can never cut into your soul.” -Leo Roth (Charlie Rowe)
