With the hot sun shining down and  the weight of their pads growing heavier and heavier as the clock ticks down, the  Bison compete to defeat the West Rusk Raiders. The varsity football took on the Raiders for round two of the playoff season.

After coming into round two of the playoffs for the second year in a row, the team was ready to advance and further their football season.

“Winning the first round game was a goal turned into a reality,” junior Luis Porras said. “We all have worked hard to play at the second round of playoffs since last year.”

The Area championship game was held in Bullard, where the winner would advance to the Regional championship game.

“Since the very first day of practice we all had the State game in mind,”  senior Blayne Stauffer said. “ We worked had all summer long to be able to play in December.”

Coaches decided to bring up several of the junior varsity players to help compete at the game. Fresham Brett Hoffman was one of the few who was given the opportunity to play.

“Moving up to varsity was a blessing but being able to play on that field was a dream come true,” Hoffman said.” After Colton got injured, I was able to go in as quarterback for the last minutes of the game.”

The Raiders went on to defeat the mighty Bison 35-0.

“The game didn’t turn out as we expected,” junior Alonso Dominguez said. “We also hoped for a different outcome; however, now we have to work even harder for next season.”

For seniors, there will not be a next season.

“It makes me sad to think that was my last game to ever wear that uniform and take the field with my brothers,” senior Benito Rivas said. “I know this isn’t the end for them, God has great plans ahead for them next year.’
