Senior Jordan Jenkins has been named as a KBTX Classroom Champion, and her interview will air later this month. Jenkins was given the recognition to honor her achievements on the basketball court as well as in the academic arena.

“It was an honor to be named,” Jenkins said. “It shows that I’m not just a good basketball player, I take care of my business in the classroom as well.”

Jenkins spends hours practicing both during the school year and in summer months; what time she spends off the court usually revolves around homework and studying.”

“I think my homework and dedication helped me earn it,” Jenkins said. “I’m glad it paid off in some way.”

Teammate Mollie Dittmar said she appreciates Jenkins’s work and will to help others.

“Sometimes when I would want to shoot before school, she would get there early and open the gym,” Dittmar said.  “But then she would finish her work and shoot, too.”

Jozette Jenkins, coach and mother of Jordan, said she is proud of what her daughter has accomplished in high school.

“I’m extremely proud of her for all of her accomplishments,” Jenkins said. “This is just one more honor to add to the growing list.”

Coach Jenkins is happy that Jordan has set an example for other players and athletes to follow.

“I’m proud to see a student athlete of her character represent her family, school, and community,” Jenkins said. “I have hopes that the up-and-coming will want to model and supersede her accomplishments based on how she represents her family, school and community.”
