Students enjoy a group dance at the Sadie Hawkins homecoming dance on Saturday night.

The anticipation was finally over for students as Saturday night arrived and it was time to get ready for the Sadie Hawkins dance – a first in recent history for the high school. In the weeks leading up to the dance, students came up with creative ways to ask their dates, and many put together matching outfits. After all of the preparations, students were excited to relax and enjoy the night.

“For the girls, it was a lot of work and stress to come up with creative ways to ask their dates,” junior Kayla Hutchins said. “Once they were finally asked, it was like a weight lifted off of our shoulders and we were excited for the dance.”

Photographer Mitchell Pate took pictures of the couples throughout the event, and a DJ was there to keep the night going with music. The juniors raised $755 towards their prom fund.

“I feel the Sadie Hawkins dance was a huge success,” head sponsor Brenda Barger said. “We had around 145 students attend the dance on a very rainy Saturday night. Thanks so much to the junior sponsors, the parents, the DJ, and the students for making this junior class fundraiser a big success.”

The sponsors weren’t the only ones happy with the event. For students, having something new to look forward to made it an event to remember.

“The dance was a great idea,” senior Kortni Hibbard said. “Watching the different ways people asked others was my favorite part.”
