Ireland protests against abortion bill

Ireland+protests+against+abortion+bill

Last week included International Women’s Day, and many women around the world celebrated. People in Ireland, however, spent the day protesting abortion rights. An amendment passed in 1983 in Ireland prohibits women from having abortions even in cases of rape, sexual assault and incest; abortion is allowed only if the mother’s health is in danger. Because of this, an average of nine women a day traveled to England and Wales in 2015 to have abortions.

Thousands of women stood in the streets of Ireland protesting with signs, chants and cheers to showcase the rights they want to have as women and took a stand against Ireland’s restrictive bill.
