WWII-era bomb discovered in British harbor

WWII-era bomb discovered in British harbor

A 500-pound unexploded German World War Two-era bomb was found in a British harbor Wednesday morning. A dredger was working on the bottom of Portsmouth Harbor and came across the bomb, which contained 290 lbs of explosives. Authorities were able to tow it into open water before it was detonated.

These bombs were still dangerous despite being several decades old and in the bottom of the ocean. Crews locked down the harbor and Navy diving experts and bomb experts planted a warhead and sent charges to detonate the bomb from a distance. It exploded in the water, resulting in a massive smoke and spray of water.
