17 killed in stampede in opening football march

At least 17 people were killed and dozens injured after a stampede before the opening match of the Angolan football league. The stampede happened in Uige, Luanda. It is reported that football fans wouldn’t follow police instructions; everyone entered the stadium through one gate in an effort to watch a match.

At least 61 people were injured in the ordeal; five were in serious condition at last report. The match between Santa Rita de Casa and Recreativo do Libolo still went on. Santa Rita de Casa won.
