Elkhart Power-lifting meet

Elkhart+Power-lifting+meet

Last week the power-lifting teams traveled to Elkhart for their first meet of the season. The teams came back with strong lifts and several medals as well as a third-place trophy.

“I feel like our teams did good overall,” sophomore Hector Dominguez said. “I practiced hard for this meet.”

Several of the boys placed in their divisions.

“I placed first in my division at the meet,” Junior Daniela Reyes said. “I feel very proud of myself and my improvements this year from last year.”

Some of the students were competing for the first time.

“I am proud of myself for placing fourth in my division,” Junior Daniela Reyes said. “I feel proud because this is my first year of powerlifting and I did very well.”

The three male freshmen that participated at the meet all came home with bronze medals.

“I was surprised to have placed third in my division,” Truman Garza said. “I am proud; I do work hard and I think it showed.”

The athletes said lifting at the meets is a chance to reach their goals and set new ones.

“The meets are fun,” Dominguez said. “I like to watch the athletes; they inspire me to keep working.”

Coach Gary Grubbs was very proud of the Bison and Lady Bison at Elkhart.

“The Bison and Lady Bison Powerlifters had a very good day at the meet,” Grubbs said. “The Bison took third overall scoring, 26 points. The Lady Bison had two lifters place as well.”
