For the second year running, cheerleading was included in the list of UIL events for the year, with the number of teams in 3A increasing dramatically from last year. The cheerleaders competed in three categories, including fight song, cheer and band dance.
“I was very excited,” head cheerleader Kynlee Driskill said. “I didn’t get nervous until right before we performed. I loved every minute of it and was so excited to experience it with everyone.”
Sixty-one teams competed in the 3A division along with Buffalo, with the top 20 making it into finals. The Bison cheerleaders missed the cut-off with a rank of 23.
“At first I wasn’t used to the change from regular cheer to competition,” sophomore Sheri Donaldson said. “It was really different. But we got used to it and did a good job.”
