Drawing is one of the many ways that people use to express their emotions or themselves through art. Kourtney Cannon, a senior this year, is one of these people. The start of Cannon’s hobby, she said, was first inspired by boredom.

“I’ve always been drawing,” Cannon said. “Younger than ten, maybe Kindergarten.”

Cannon favors realism drawings and prefers to sketch people. She said she would like to draw professionally in the future, but knows that it’s not an easy profession to break into.

“There is a 50/50 chance of getting the job,” Cannon said. “You’re either in or out.”

Cannon doesn’t like all kinds of art – she says she is not a fan of painting or Zentangle Art, the creating of images through repeating patterns, although art teacher Amanda Harter says she is great at it.

“Courtney is a talented artist,” Harter said. “She can take just about any image and recreate it at any size.”
